There are serious problems in the world today, the social issues that surround us are massive and charitable organizations are tiny by comparison. Most of the time it feels like organizations are just throwing pebbles at giant problems! The Greater Tomorrow Foundation was created for people who want to actively work to slay the giants in the world!
Bono of the band U2 put it this way, “History will be our judge, but what is written is up to us. We cannot say our generation didn’t know how to do it. We can’t say our generation couldn’t afford it and we can’t say our generation didn’t have reason to do it. Our problem is that the plight of suffering people simply hasn’t gotten personal for us.”
What will it take to make the plight of suffering people personal for you? Will you have to research the issues? Will you have to see pictures or videos of what is actually happening? Will you have to talk to people who are working on the problem or will you have to physically visit the need and be involved? The Foundation can help you with this process.
In the real world, researchers report that 50% of the jobs that people have today, did not exist 10 years ago, but in the nonprofit world 95% of the jobs existed 50 years ago. We have an energetic young work force, are there really so few new opportunities today to creatively expand services and meet the pressing social needs? We want to empower a new generation of social entrepreneurs, who are willing to answer the call, go to the hard places, do the difficult work and champion the causes that need to be tackled in this world.
When a person is part of a start-up in business they realize that in order to survive, they have to get people to invest in their ideas and their business plan. It is the passion and the belief that what is being proposed will be successful, that it is needed by society and that the company provides a valuable product or service that is not available today that makes the case. The goal is help people really understand what the business is trying to do and why you have a better way, so that they will want to invest in the entrepreneur and the business.
A nonprofit start-up is really no different. A gift to a charity is an investment in a better world and there are people out there waiting to partner with those who want to change the world. They want a champion for the causes that they are passionate about. You are not begging for money, you are earning it – your partners believe that you are meeting a critical need in the world, that is not being adequately addressed and they are privileged to be a part of it! You are not asking people to put money in your tin cup, you are seeking partners who will be rewarded personally for their involvement in what you are doing.
There are approximately 1.5 million nonprofit organizations in the United States today. 33% of them have annual revenues of $50,000 or less. 73% of them have annual revenues of less than $250,000. Only 13% have annual revenues of more than $1,000,000. Applying for and maintaining 501(c)(3) status has gotten considerably more complicated and expensive today. If you want to set up a nonprofit that will have annual income over $50,000, the time for approval by the IRS is running more than a year and the process can easily cost over $10,000. Once approved, the annual requirements of the 990 tax form, receipting donors, paying staff, technical advice for the website, fundraising, corporate paperwork and administrative meetings can easily take 20 – 30% of your budget and time.
The Greater Tomorrow Foundation was started specifically to help those who help others by providing them with the tools to turn their visions into reality. Our Foundations have served as fiscal sponsor for over 400 projects in the US and around the world and over 95% of the funds that come in go directly for program services. It is our goal to help people who want to be involved in charitable activities; full time, part-time or in their spare time.
When you establish a project under the Greater Tomorrow Foundation, we don’t send you off on a bicycle to start your project, we give you the keys to the Ferrari! You will have all the tools available to you that the large organizations have. Your donors will be able to make all kinds of gifts to your project, both online and direct, and as a Project Manager you will have access to a dashboard that allows you to see all of the activity in your project, update your project information, send out emails and newsletters, get suggestions on fundraising and most importantly, get all of the contact information on donors so that you can properly thank them.
